We are a Parent Partnership Program where parents of home schooled children and teachers from the Deer Park School District work together to define the educational goals and materials our parents and students use at home. The first session of Home Link started in September 2000 with 38 students. Today, we have over 500 students. We also provide core and supplemental classes at our Deer Park and Clayton campuses.

MEMO - January 22 through 26, 2018

Second semester begins…this week! That means new classes galore in your children’s schedule. May each class and all the new learning represented therein be a blessing to your son/daughter. If there’s a need to drop a class and enter a new one, which certainly happens, such changes must be confined to these next two weeks. By the week beginning Monday, February 5th, all schedules must remain as they are. Thanks for remembering!

For students who will be juniors or seniors next year - the NEWTECH Skill Center in Spokane is having an informational Open House THIS Thursday, January 25, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. That evening represents the first opportunity for students to apply to the Skill Center for next year. Spots in the various medical, vocational, and technical programs are on a first-come first-served basis, so it’s imperative that applications are turned in ASAP to better secure a spot in your desired program. Applications for next year are in your Consultant’s hands, or at the front desk. Home Link typically has from 10 to 15 students attending the Skill Center each year (many utilizing a bus that leaves Deer Park High School at 10:55 pm and returns to the high school at 2:45 pm).Talk your consultant or contact Rod Armbruster with any questions. A NEWTECH informational flyer is on this Memo’s reverse side.

Getting those progress reports in? Of course! Thank you.

Specialists, don’t forget! We have a Specialists’ Meeting THIS coming Friday, Jan 26, from 10 am to 1pm, Deer Park site. It won’t be same without each you; glad that you’re COMING!

Silverwood! Reading Is The Ticket! Yep, this wonderful opportunity is back! It begins now, the month of January, and runs through March 1, 2018. It’s for students in grades K-8, and requires the completion of 10 hours of just-for-fun- reading! Pick up Tally sheets and information in the Deer Park campus library.

Parents – the dates for mid-year testing of I-Ready are Feb 2, Feb 5, Feb 9, and Feb 12. Those days are alternate Mondays and Fridays. If you didn’t elect to take this assessment this fall, contact your Consultant for this mid-year opportunity. And for those of you whose children tested this past fall, and are testing again in the next few weeks - your children’s online lessons will indeed update. Good deal!

Parents and Staff – how dear your lovely turnout was for Michelle Stallings. She loved each of hugs and every one of your words. For those you who pitched in to make the farewell gathering possible - such special thanks. That goes double for Kamisha, Gina, Connie, and Kersten!

May we brag? One of our juniors, Patty Morton, was invited to attend the National Academy of Future Physicians, in Boston. WHEW! This invitation was based on some pretty fabulous PSAT scores- way to go, (Dr.) Patty! Couldn’t be more proud!

In a poem he calls ‘January’, writer John Updike says:
The days are short. The sun a spark, hung thin between the dark and the dark.
Fat snowy footprints track the floor. And parkas pile up near the door.
The river is a frozen place. Held still beneath the trees’ black lace.
The sky is low. The wind is gray. The radiator burrs all day.

Sorta makes you want to curl up all day, doesn’t it? You have permission – enjoy!
