We are a Parent Partnership Program where parents of home schooled children and teachers from the Deer Park School District work together to define the educational goals and materials our parents and students use at home. The first session of Home Link started in September 2000 with 38 students. Today, we have over 500 students. We also provide core and supplemental classes at our Deer Park and Clayton campuses.

MEMO - January 16 through 19, 2018

A mighty thanks to all parents for participating in last week’s class registration process for second semester. We know that many classes that filled before some of you had chance at them...we’re so sorry for the disappointment. We are especially delighted by your ‘good sport’ attitude in quickly making alternative selections from what we consider a pretty remarkable slate of class options. Thank you for that willingness. If you get a chance to thank Kara LaVoie and Kaylene Krug-Hanson for the creative achievement that each semester’s class schedule represents, year after year, semester after semester- PLEASE do! The massive hours they bring to building a grid packed full of classes for two locations that forms a multi leveled schedule that works for 250 families...can you imagine where we’d be without their unique contribution??! Exactly! Hunt them down and thank them...they hate the attention - so go ahead and pour it on!

Progress reports, oh progress reports. Yep, it’s that time...help us out, won’t you, by turning in your summaries? Thanks!

‘The play’s the thing!’ Anne of Green Gables (you saw it?!!) was a stunning success that warmed each heart in attendance. Sharlene - our students turn out performances that delight and humble us with their talent, and yours. How can we thank you enough for the theatrical experience you provide actors and audience alike? You knock our socks off!

Please remember that this is the week of the farewell party for Specialist and Para, Michelle Stalling. She’s been a presence with us for over 10 years. My hunch is that are few families whose children haven’t been in at least one of her classes. We’ve been so fortunate, haven’t we. But there’s something new before Michelle- an opportunity that she’s perfectly suited for. And we celebrate all the good this represents. Could you attend her going-away party THIS Thursday, Jan. 18th from 3-4:30 pm at Clayton? We’d love to have each of you join us – please be part of the momentum that springs her forward! Do come!

Perhaps like Michelle, there are some new beginnings in your life, too? Things that are fresh and present a change can be intoxicating in thought, but inhibiting in acting on. “Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” That statement is one of Martin Luther King, Jr’s. Just his Monday, the country honored him, and the ‘first steps’ his life and words brought to America. It seems appropriate to spotlight his view of new beginnings, this first month of the new year...can’t you hear him telling Michelle, and each of us to embrace change and newness, and take that first step. No more second guessing...it’s one step at a time; for a whole staircase of possibility awaits. Take a deep breath and just do it, dear ones. The time is now!
