We are a Parent Partnership Program where parents of home schooled children and teachers from the Deer Park School District work together to define the educational goals and materials our parents and students use at home. The first session of Home Link started in September 2000 with 38 students. Today, we have over 500 students. We also provide core and supplemental classes at our Deer Park and Clayton campuses.

Memo - Sept 25 through 29, 2017

Happy second week of classes! Need to make changes to your children’s schedules? Now’s the time!

There’s a letter of information in each of your mailboxes on this week’s safety drill. It explains our effort for this week, and upcoming drills as well.

Pictures orders are IN! The picture packets have been placed in your family box. Also, Leo's photography has provided everyone who had their photo taken with a complimentary student ID card. The ID's can be picked up from Connie at the front desk. Now, don’t forget that Picture Retakes are October 9th, 1-3 pm. If you were unable to join us on Picture Day, please come with that great smile of yours on October 9th. Appointments are not needed, just drop in between 1 and 3.

Gymnastics club’s starting time has changed from 3:30 to 3:15 pm, on Wednesdays. This is in effect for the months of September, October and November, only. In December, starting time resumes to 3:30 pm.

For juniors and sophomores who are interested in taking the PSAT, there’s a slight hiccup this year. Deer Park High School is part of a testing grant which necessitates that PSAT testing results represent students who take classes at Deer Park high School, only. The convenience of testing at the high school is therefore not an option for Home Link students this year. But here's what you might do - contact Riverside High School, or one of the Mead high schools, or another nearby high school and speak with a counselor there. Explain your need for a testing site, and ask for a test application booklet. The PSAT is being offered on both Oct 11 and Oct 14. The fee is nominal, and truly? Doing well on the PSAT can lead to some extraordinary opportunities through the National Merit Scholarship program. The bother this year? WORTH IT!

Last Friday morning, the husband of Specialist Michelle Stallings passed away. Many of you know how terribly sick Brandon has been. I know that we all grieve with Michelle and her daughters and ache inside for this loss. Michelle feels that and is grateful for the empathy and kindness. However, she has request. She’s asking folks to allow them just to ‘be’; so that Home Link can be a sanctuary where they can live life with normalcy. They’d rather not be consoled or asked questions. As a matter of fact they’re feeling some anxiety about returning to us in the face of all they’ve experienced. Can you honor Michelle’s request? Can you just let Michelle, Emma, and Zoe breathe in and out and function normally among us? I KNEW you’d say of course, and mean it. Michelle’s had such an impact on so many of us – it’s a privilege to honor any request of hers. We so love you, Michelle, Emma and Zoe. And we’ll stand beside you, quietly, with thankful hearts for the joy of knowing you.
