We are a Parent Partnership Program where parents of home schooled children and teachers from the Deer Park School District work together to define the educational goals and materials our parents and students use at home. The first session of Home Link started in September 2000 with 38 students. Today, we have over 500 students. We also provide core and supplemental classes at our Deer Park and Clayton campuses.

MEMO - October 9 through 13, 2017

Bit nippy these days – especially the early mornings! I saw five crew boats on the Spokane River this morning. It was just getting light, and today’s gorgeous sunrise still wouldn’t happen for 30 minutes. As captivating as those five curved boats and their crew were – all I could think was YIKES-HOW-COLD. It took my breath away - and by the way, I could see theirs. The self-discipline it takes to be awake and actively be ‘on’ an exercise before dawn? You have to really be committed - have to believe in the process and its benefits. Which truly made me think of each of you and your dedication to something that you believe in, and are actively ‘on’ in season and out, convenient or not. The ‘benefit’ in this case…has your last name, complete with tousled hair most days. Like early morning workouts, your commitment to your beloveds makes all the difference in the quality of what you’re achieving within your sons and daughters. Bravo to your efforts, and a special bravo to hanging in there when the world feels cold to you.

WHOOP! Harvest Party -Thursday, Oct 26th; 3 – 5 pm. All Home Link families are invited to join in the fun as we celebrate this time of year! There will be games, prizes, cider, popcorn, face painting and free lattes for parents. Remember, no costumes please. You can help in two ways: Candy donations- we need lots of candy! (There will be a basket for candy in the front office.) Volunteer- If you would like to volunteer at a booth for one hour, sign up in the front office by the Events Board. We’ll see you there!!

This is a call-out to any 11th or 12th grader who needs an English Language Arts or Math retake for the Smarter Balanced Assessment. The testing opportunity is Friday, November 3 at 9 am; Deer Park campus. Notify your consultant, if he/she hasn’t already notified you.

Please remember that Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday school days end at 3 pm, when the final class is completed. That means that your children begin looking for YOU at this time. We’ve had some mighty late afternoons, here and there, as folks have arrived to pick up their darlins an hour to two hours late. Thank you for remembering…school closes down, and doors get locked before you know it!

Also remember that we’re a closed campus, both sites. For instance, students at Deer Park can’t leave at noon, and go down the road to Levi’s for lunch. Tempting; but no can do.

A change: we’ve moved our school safety drills which were scheduled for next week, to the following week; October 24, 25, and 26. These will be lockdown drills and will happen concurrently at both campuses. The time is deliberately non-specified for these drills. And everyone in the buildings; Moms, Dads, younger siblings alike, will participate. Thank you – as you know, we can’t be too vigilant.

There’s a wonderful week ahead! Amid the falling colors and turn in temperature, I know that all of you are beginning to bear down on this school year and the expectations you have for it. As I stated earlier, it takes no end of commitment to be a homeschooling family. So engage the year ahead with a happy heart, remembering that each day will go the way the corners of your mouth turn.
